Does the Bezzera Sole PID need a special power point?

No. The Sole PID runs on a standard Australian 10 amp power point. Its 1450 watt element draws roughly 6 amps at 240 volts, so no electrician and no dedicated 15 amp circuit is required. Avoid running it on a shared extension lead with other high-draw kitchen appliances.

Can the Bezzera Sole PID be plumbed into mains water?

Yes. It is a dual-connect machine, so it runs from either the 4 litre internal tank or a direct mains connection, and you can switch between them later. We recommend fitting a water filter or softener on the mains line, because scale damage from untreated water is the most common cause of expensive boiler repairs and is not covered by warranty. Plumbed installation is available for Sydney metro areas.

Should I add the flow control paddle?

Add it if you buy rotating single-origin or lighter roasts and want to shape each extraction with pre-infusion and a declining pressure ramp. Skip it if you drink medium to dark roasts and want a repeatable 9 bar shot with minimal fuss. It is a factory option fitted before delivery, so it is cheaper to order now than to retrofit later. Is the Bezzera Sole PID suitable for a beginner?

It can be, but it is not the cheapest way to learn. An E61 heat exchanger rewards good grinding, consistent dosing and a bit of technique, and it will expose a poor grinder immediately. If this is your first machine and your budget covers both, buy the machine and a quality grinder together rather than pairing it with an entry-level grinder. If the budget only stretches to one, start with a simpler machine and spend more on the grind.

How long does the Sole PID take to heat up?

Like all E61 machines, the boiler reaches pressure well before the group head is thermally stable. Allow 25 to 30 minutes from cold for genuinely consistent shots. A timer switch on the power point is the usual solution, set to turn the machine on half an hour before you get up.

How much bench space does the Bezzera Sole PID need?

The machine is 305 millimetres wide, 455 millimetres deep and 415 millimetres high, and weighs 27 kilograms. Allow additional clearance above for filling the tank from the top and behind for the water connection and power lead. Measure the gap under any overhead cupboards before ordering, as 415 millimetres plus tank access is where most bench-fit problems occur.

What colours does the Sole PID come in?

Panels are available in stainless steel, black, white or green. Wooden knobs and handles can be specified as an option on any finish, as can a flow control paddle in black or wood. Colour and option choices are made at the time of order because they are fitted at the factory.

Who services the machine in Australia and what does the warranty cover?

Di Pacci has an in-house service team with parts held in stock, so warranty and out-of-warranty work is handled directly rather than sent to a third party. The Sole PID carries a 24 month parts and labour Australian warranty. Damage caused by limescale from untreated water is excluded, which is why we recommend water filtration on plumbed installations. The Voyager does not heat water from cold when running on battery. In cordless mode, the battery brings already-hot water up the final few degrees to your target brew temperature - it doesn't heat from ambient. Simply pour in hot water from a kettle or thermos and the battery does the rest.
For full standalone heating from room temperature, plug the Voyager into mains power. On AC it works as a complete machine, taking cold water all the way up to your set brew temp.
