Di Pacci — 98mm Flat Burr Grinder for Filter and Espresso

Mahlkönig EK43 S Icon Edition Grinder

The Mahlkönig EK43 S Icon Edition is the compact EK43 with gold detailing: the same 98 mm burrs that made the EK43 the speciality standard.

The Mahlkönig EK43 S packs the grinding performance of the full-size EK43 into a smaller body: 98 mm cast steel flat burrs, a 1300 W motor and an average output of 19–21 g per second. It grinds for filter, espresso and Turkish fine, which is why roasters and speciality cafes use it as their reference grinder.

The Icon Edition adds golden accents on the dial knob, grind scale, feet, on/off button, numbered plate and Mahlkönig logo, and ships with a black 250 g bean hopper and a portafilter dosing cup. Each unit carries a numbered plate, and only a small number came to Australia.

Key Features of the Mahlkönig EK43 S Icon

⚙️ 98 mm cast steel burrs

Large flat burrs produce a tight particle distribution for high, clean extractions.

☕ Filter to espresso

One grinder covers filter, espresso and Turkish fine, so you can dial in any brew method.

⚡ 19–21 g per second

Grinds a retail bag or a big batch brew in seconds.

📦 Compact EK43 body

EK43 grinding in a smaller footprint: 23 cm wide and 41 cm deep.

✨ Icon detailing

Golden dial, scale, feet, switch, logo and numbered plate set it apart on the counter.

🥄 Extras included

Ships with a black 250 g hopper and a portafilter dosing cup.

Why 98 mm Flat Burrs Change the Cup

Burr size and geometry decide how evenly coffee is ground. The EK43 burr set is the reason the grinder became a speciality benchmark.

  • Large flat burrs cut beans into a narrow band of particle sizes, with fewer fines and boulders.
  • Even particles extract at the same rate, so you can push extraction higher without bitterness.
  • The result is clarity: fruit and acidity in lighter roasts come through cleanly, in filter and espresso alike.

If you serve single origins or light roasts, the EK43 S lets those coffees taste the way the roaster intended.

What's in the Box

  • Mahlkönig EK43 S Icon Edition grinder
  • Black 250 g bean hopper
  • Portafilter dosing cup

The EK43 S grinds on demand into a cup or bag; it doesn't dose by time or weight, so pair it with scales if you're single-dosing espresso.

EK43 S Icon vs Fiorenzato F83 E XGi

Two premium flat-burr grinders that suit different jobs: the EK43 S for single-dosing and retail, the F83 E XGi for on-demand espresso.

Feature EK43 S Icon Fiorenzato F83 E XGi
Burrs 98 mm cast steel flat 83 mm flat
Motor 1300 W 650 W
Hopper 250 g 1.5 kg
Dosing Grind on demand, no dosing Dose set in grams
Best use Filter, espresso, retail Espresso service

Di Pacci recommendation: Choose the EK43 S Icon for filter, single-origin espresso and retail grinding, or if you want a collector's piece. Don't bother with it as your main espresso grinder in a busy cafe; an on-demand grinder such as the Fiorenzato F83 E XGi doses straight into the portafilter.

What to Pair with the EK43 S

The EK43 S is often the second grinder on a speciality bar, alongside an espresso workhorse.

Item Type Why it pairs well
Fiorenzato F83 E XGi On-demand grinder Handles house-blend espresso while the EK43 S does filter and single origins
Synesso Cyncra Multi-boiler machine Per-group temperature suits the light roasts an EK43 grinds best
La Marzocco GS3 Dual-boiler home machine A home pairing for serious single-dose espresso
