The Pesado High Diffusion (HD) Shower Screen is a precision-engineered replacement for the stock Breville 54mm shower screen — designed to solve the single biggest cause of inconsistent espresso at home: uneven water distribution across the coffee puck. Breville's stock basket-shaped shower screen fills with water before dispersing it, and where that water bursts out changes shot to shot, creating channeling, uneven extraction, and unpredictable flavor. Installation Instructions

Installation takes 2 minutes and requires no special tools — just use your existing shower screen screw.

  1. Remove the water tank, drip tray, and bean hopper from your machine (prevents spills)
  2. Flip the machine onto its back so you have direct access to the group head
  3. Unscrew your current shower screen using the center screw
  4. Remove the old screen and clean the group head surface
  5. For Barista Express/Infuser models: Lay the included diffusion disc flat onto the group head so it sits inside the grooves, then place the HD screen over the disc (make sure disc doesn't move)
  6. For all other 54mm models: Place the HD screen directly onto the group head
  7. Screw in the HD screen using your existing shower screen screw (make sure it's fully tightened)
  8. Flip the machine back upright and reconnect water tank, drip tray, and bean hopper

Note: You may notice your portafilter feels slightly looser after installation. This is normal — the HD screen works best with Pesado HE baskets, but you can also use a paper spacer behind the group seal or upgrade to a thicker group seal if preferred.

Which Breville machines is this compatible with?
This 54mm version fits all Breville/Sage 54mm machines including: Barista Express, Barista Express Impress, Barista Touch, Barista Touch Impress, Barista Pro, Bambino Plus, Duo-Temp Pro, and The Infuser. Note: Barista Express, Barista Express Impress, and Infuser models require the EX54HD version which includes a diffusion disc to correct the off-center water flow in those models. All other 54mm machines use the standard 54HD version with no disc. This is NOT compatible with Breville 58mm machines (Dual Boiler, Oracle, Oracle Touch) — those require the separate 58mm MV-HD version.
Will I notice a difference in espresso quality after installing this?
Yes — most users notice an immediate improvement in extraction consistency and flavor balance. Common improvements include: more even extraction (no sour and bitter notes in the same shot), reduced channeling (better puck integrity after extraction), more consistent crema, and easier dialing in (settings that work stay consistent shot-to-shot). The HD screen doesn't magically fix technique issues like poor distribution or inconsistent tamping, but it eliminates the random water flow pattern that was making your shots unpredictable even when you did everything else right.
Why does my portafilter feel looser after installing the HD screen?
This is normal and expected. The HD screen has a slightly different thickness profile than the stock Breville screen, which can cause the portafilter to lock in at a slightly different position. This doesn't affect extraction quality — the HD screen is specifically designed to work optimally at this thickness. If you prefer your portafilter to lock closer to the 6 o'clock position, you have three options: (1) use a paper spacer behind the group seal (you can buy pre-made spacers or DIY with household paper), (2) upgrade to a thicker group seal (available in 0.5mm or 1mm increments), or (3) pair the HD screen with Pesado HE baskets which are designed to work perfectly with the HD screen thickness.

Customer Error Returns:
We are able to return the product for a refund if the packaging remains intact and the item has not been unboxed. Kindly notify us within 14 days of the date of delivery. If your item is unused and unboxed, we can issue a refund, minus a restocking & handling fee of 30% of the invoiced value, provided that we are notified within 14 days of the delivery date. The product must be returned at store or shipped by customer at their own cost. The refund or credit will be processed after the item has been returned and inspected to ensure that it is in re sellable condition. The product needs to be returned safely by the customer.
