Di Pacci — Home Coffee Machines — Profitec — Compact Heat Exchanger — Made in Germany

Profitec Pro 400 Espresso Machine

1.6L Heat Exchanger · E61 Group · 3 Temp Presets · Pre-Infusion · ECO Mode · Dual Pressure Gauges · 2.8L Tank · 58mm · 4 Colour Disclets — Made in Germany

The Profitec Pro 400 is Profitec's most compact heat exchanger machine — German-built, tightly engineered, and packed with prosumer features: an E61 group head, a 1.6L stainless steel HX boiler for simultaneous brewing and steaming, dual pressure gauges, and a clever 3-position underside switch to select brew temperature, toggle pre-infusion, or activate ECO mode. No screen, no complexity — just meaningful control built into the machine.

Three boiler temperature presets (120°C / 124°C / 128°C) map to approximate puck temps of 90°C, 94°C, and 98°C — making it easy to match your machine to different roast profiles. The 2.8L tank is rear-access via the removable cup warmer tray on top, and a blind basket holder sits neatly under the drip tray. Four interchangeable colour disclets (yellow, red, blue, green) let you personalise the knobs. Every detail considered — Profitec's hallmark.

Frequently Asked Questions
The underside switch on the Pro 400 sets the boiler to one of three target temperatures: position I (120°C boiler / ≈90°C at the puck), position II (124°C / ≈94°C), or position III (128°C / ≈98°C). As a starting point: use position I for darker roasts and chocolatey blends that extract well at lower temperatures; position II for medium roasts and most commercial espresso blends; position III when you need maximum steam output for back-to-back milk drinks or if you're pulling light specialty roasts that benefit from higher brew temperatures. The switch is on the underside of the machine and easy to adjust between sessions — it's not designed to be changed mid-extraction.
Some temperature management is part of owning any HX machine, but the Pro 400's preset system and the E61 group's thermal mass significantly reduce the complexity compared to older HX designs. After warm-up, a brief 2-3 second flush through the group before your first shot brings the temperature into the target brew range. Once the machine is at operating temperature and you're pulling shots regularly, the thermal rhythm becomes natural and takes very little attention. Most baristas adapt to this quickly and find it a minor habit rather than a meaningful burden.
No — the Pro 400 uses a tank-only water supply (2.8L, rear access). It is not designed for direct in-line plumbing. This makes it simpler to install — just place it on any counter and fill the tank — but means it requires periodic refilling. For households pulling 4–8 drinks per day, the 2.8L tank is generally sufficient for a morning session. If in-line plumbing is important for your setup, the ECM Technika V Profi PID (also available at Di Pacci) offers switchable tank/plumbed supply.
Both are German-engineered HX machines with E61 group heads at a similar prosumer price tier. The key differences: the Pro 400 uses a vibration pump and a 1.6L boiler; the ECM Technika V has a near-silent rotary pump and a larger 2.1L boiler. The ECM also supports switchable plumbed water supply and uses the same PID controller as the Synchronika dual boiler with a dedicated shot timer display. The Pro 400's 3-position preset switch is arguably simpler to use day-to-day. Both are outstanding machines — the right choice depends on your priorities around pump noise, plumbing capability, and boiler size. Call Di Pacci on (02) 9758 0760 for a personalised recommendation.
