The Rocket Appartamento TCA is the next generation of the iconic Appartamento — Rocket Espresso's most celebrated home machine — redesigned from the ground up by Valerio Cometti and V12 Design. TCA stands for Temperature Control Adjustment: a hybrid PID system that lets you select one of four boiler pressure presets (0.9 / 1.0 / 1.1 / 1.2 bar) directly via the brew lever, with no screens, no menus, and no additional buttons. This translates directly to brew temperature control — choose a lower setting for delicate light roasts, a higher setting for darker blends — all with Rocket's signature clean, uncluttered front panel. The TCA's insulated 1.8L copper boiler reduces energy consumption by 15% over the original Appartamento and means significantly fewer and shorter cooling flushes than a traditional HX machine.

Beyond the TCA temperature system, every detail of the machine has been updated. A one-piece solid stainless steel frame replaces the older multi-part chassis for greater rigidity. The RGB LED indicator light communicates selected temperature, heating status, water level alerts, and operating modes through colour — no display required. The drip tray is now magnetic and wider for larger cups. The E61 group head has a distinctive new angular design. The portafilter features an ergonomic rubber grip handle with a chrome "R" tip. What does TCA mean and how do I use it?

TCA stands for Temperature Control Adjustment. It's Rocket's hybrid PID system that lets you select one of four boiler pressure presets — 0.9, 1.0, 1.1, or 1.2 bar — which directly influences brew temperature. To change the setting, you enter programming mode by actuating the brew lever in a specific sequence (detailed in the manual) — no screens or buttons required. The RGB LED confirms which preset is selected through colour. Lower settings (0.9–1.0 bar) suit lighter roasts and single origins; higher settings (1.1–1.2 bar) work well with darker, more traditional blends. Once set, the TCA holds that temperature lane repeatably session to session.

Do I still need to do cooling flushes on the TCA?

Yes, but significantly fewer and shorter than the original Appartamento. The TCA's insulated boiler keeps the HX water closer to target temperature even after periods of idle, which reduces the amount of overheated water that needs to be purged before pulling a shot. After a long idle (30+ minutes), a short flush of a few seconds until the water flows smoothly is recommended. During an active session with back-to-back drinks, flushes are minimal or not required. The TCA makes the classic HX cooling flush ritual noticeably less disruptive compared to non-insulated HX machines.

What is the difference between the Appartamento TCA and the original Appartamento OG?

The TCA is a ground-up redesign, not an incremental update. No — the Appartamento TCA uses a vibration pump and is designed for reservoir (tank) use only. The 1.9L removable water tank is adequate for most home sessions. If plumb-in capability is important, Rocket's rotary pump models — the Mozzafiato Cronometro R or Giotto Cronometro R — both support direct mains water connection.
